About

Hi, I’m Amberley.

My story starts as a kid growing up in a household of let’s call it “money chaos.” I knew that I wanted to do things differently as an adult but hadn’t quite found the tools. A few months after my husband, Dakota, and I got married, we took an FPU (Financial Peace University) class and that was a huge wakeup for us. We realized we’d been applying for and purchasing on credit card after credit card because that’s how we were told to build our credit. We put appliances on 90-day 0% interest and weren’t able to pay it off in those 90 days. I was racking up student loans each year. We were normal. It wasn’t until we added up our debt, saw the total, and realized we didn’t want that for the life we were building. We went through a season of working all the time, cutting back, and even selling our first house to pay off our debt. That momentum and desire to escape “normalcy” pushed me into talking about finances all the time and helping my friends and family with their budgets and goals. I realized how passionate I became about wanting others to experience that same peace we had curated.

We don’t talk about money enough in our society; it’s a hush-hush topic that perpetuates normalizing debt and emphasizes the need to buy the next best thing. Shame keeps the cycle going when money habits are kept hidden. Plus add a spouse into the mix and deep-set money beliefs are bound to invoke tension. This is why I created Combined Finances: to help couples holistically look at their finances and help them set and achieve goals. Having the support of a financial coach brings a new perspective, new tools, accountability, and someone rooting for you to win along the way. You can learn more about my services here.
